About Me
Buckell Instruments grew out of a lifelong DIY attitude heavily influenced by my dad. From around the age of 13, I was forcing him to help me build guitars, cabs, and pedalboards and quickly became obsessed with gear, how things worked and if we could do it ourselves, making each project better than the last. Building gear became a part of how I connected with music.
I’ve been playing in bands since I was 12, so playing with others and recording has always shaped how I think about equipment. Sometime around 2015, I started setting up, repairing, and modifying guitars for friends and local players, while also starting to record, produce, and engineer for my own projects and a handful of bands. That practical experience — taught me that equipment becomes a very personal thing to the user and how they get sounds out to the world.
I began building DIY pedal kits in 2018, and in 2020, during my Music Technology degree, I designed a tremolo pedal controlled by a large computer trackball for my final year project. Around that time, I was also encouraged and supported by my friend Lottie Canto, a fellow pedal builder who has helped shape countless projects along the way. That period pushed me deeper into circuit design — not just pedals, but some studio equipment too, including microphones and preamps. By 2022, I began building my own original pedals.
Buckell Instruments is simply the continuation of that path: thoughtfully designed, well-built gear shaped by real experience in bands and in the studio.
